Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, Robert Pirsig

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, Robert Pirsig, reviews This lyrical, evocative, thought-provoking journal of a man's quest for truth--and for himself--has touched and changed an entire generation. At its heart, the story is all too simple: a man and his son take a lengthy motorcycle trip through America. But this is not a simple trip at all, for around every corner, through mountain and desert, wind and rain, their pilgrimage leads them to new vistas of self-discovery and renewal.

Reviews and/or Comments from readers who voted for
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, by Robert Pirsig

- The best philosophy I've ever read. This book said for me in Emglish what my heart had been screaming for me to understand for years. It all fell into place when Persig spelled it out, and the universe has been more wonderful ever since.

- What can I say about this book that hasn't been said a thousandtimes?  Still the best analysis of man's relationship to theuniverse I have ever read.

- As a philosopher, bogged down in what is rational, what is right, what is true; and trapped in an overwhelming universe which does not seem to conform to any of these goals, this book realigned my priorities. It made me realize that what is true need not be rational, what is rational need not be right, and what is right need not be true.  All that need be is Quality, or Beauty.  If there is any justice in this world, this book would become a classic of western AND eastern philosophy.

- Despite being a major source of headaches and frustration, the ideas presented in "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" have changed my outlook on life, probably forever. For some reason, I felt much more mature after reading it, like I'd been through alot and come out with scars, but also with wisdom. WHile Pirsig may come across as pretentious, if one can overlook this, the ideas presented are invaluable. At times I was in tears from frustation, but by the end, I felt that I walked away from it all with much more than I had when I'd started. I find it difficult to describe exactly how this book changed me, but changed me it has, I think, for the better.

- Extremely thought provoking, "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" is the most profound modern philosophical work I have come across.

- The used be two kinds of people, ya got yer mechanics, and ya got yer poets...and the two can never meet...until Robert Pirsig.

- It has changed the way I view things.

- the most challenging book i've ever read.
