The Beast

By : Steve B.

"Hurry up, Jack, we're waiting for you!" shouted Patrick. He wanted to go to play in the park. Steve, beside Patrick, was waiting for Jack too. Those three friends went to the park together each Saturday morning. They're all in grade 6, in the school of Compton, Louis-St-Laurent. But this Saturday, they wouldn't go if they knew what was going to happen...

The morning was like all the Saturday mornings. First, they played soccer, then they sat down and talked about their video games. Jack decided to go to the washroom because... You know why. Steve and Patrick continued to talk, waiting for Jack. "I wonder why Jack is still there. Maybe we should begin the basketball game without him, Pat," said Steve. After the game, Patrick decided to go to the washroom, too. "Steve!" cried Patrick. "Jack! He's... He's... He's dead!"

Steve couldn't believe what he saw. Jack was really dead. "What are we going to say to his parents? They'll kill us!" cried Patrick. "They can't kill us, we didn't do it!" said Steve. "Yes, but we were the only ones here!" shouted Patrick. Then, they both heard a loud growl. "Are you sure of that, Pat?" said Steve softly. "I don't think so," whispered Patrick.

They heard another growl. "Steve look be... Look behind you!" gasped Patrick. They saw a beast of about 2 meters tall. It had white prickly fur and it looked like a bear. It had teeth of an inch long. They ran out, took their bikes and went as fast as they could to get rid of the beast. "Let's go to my house!" shouted Steve. "We can't go to your house, Steve. It's too far and it's faster than us!" cried Patrick. "So where do you want to go?" cried Steve. "Let's go to the highway, a car could kill him," shouted Patrick.

"Hey, where is it?" asked Steve. After that, the beast jumped in front of them. "Oh no! He's blocking the way to the highway!" said Patrick. "What's that?" asked a policeman. Patrick and Steve saw him phone somebody. Later, a dozen men came with tranquilizer guns and shot the beast. Then they killed it.

The next Saturday, Steve and Patrick were in the park. They were still sad about Jack, but they were happy that they weren't eaten by the beast. "All our problems are gone now", said Steve. "Are you sure of that?", said another beast.
